Bromine

Bromine is a naturally occurring element that is a liquid at room temperature.

At ambient temperature bromine is a brownish-red liquid. It has a similarly colored vapor with an offensive and suffocating odor. It is the only nonmetallic element that is liquid under ordinary conditions, it evaporates easily at standard temperature and pressures in a red vapor that has a strong disagreeable odor resembling that of chlorine. Bromine is less active chemically than chlorine and fluorine but is more active than iodine; its compounds are similar to those of the other halogens. Bromine is soluble in organic solvents and in water.

Bromine is found naturally in the earth’s crust and in seawater in various chemical forms. Bromine can also be found as an alternative to chlorine in swimming pools. Since it is heavier than air , it would settle in low lying areas.

About 30% of the bromine in the atmosphere comes from human activities, the rest is natural.

It is corrosive to human tissue in its liquid state, and it irritates eyes and the throat and is highly toxic when inhaled in a vapor state. Bromine damages many major organs, including the liver, kidneys, lungs, and stomach, and, in some cases, can cause cancer.

  • Husaini Offers Bromine Detectors in various models as suitable to Different Industrial Applications.
  • At times it also provides customized solutions according to customer needs on special request.

The added Advantage for Bromine Detectors is quick response and immediate stability back to zero. Whenever high concentration gas is sensed by the sensor ie in Percentage the display becomes Infinity and detectors generally take time to get back to zero. The detectors offered by HUSAINI have considered this parameter wherein the sensor does not get damage due to saturation and in few seconds it returns back to low value and accordingly becomes zero compared to other sensors available in the market.

At times the sensing element becomes brown due to the nature and colour of the Bromine Gas but this can be Neutralized by adding the same electrolyte 1-2 drops from the reservoir to again make it to normal.

Bromine Gas Atmopshere are very toxic and harsh so we suggest customers to purchase Flameproof Instruments rather than weatherproof Enclosures so that the monitor/detector itself sustain for long coming years.

HUSAINI provides service and support to various Industries as and when required.

Do contact us for any of your requirements or discussions for your different applications.

Bromine Gas Detectors are generally used in following industries

Bromine gas detectors are used in industries and by workers that use bromine in liquid and gas forms. This ensures if any excess levels of Br2 gas occurs in the air, that they are warned. It is possible that in an industrial situation, a bromine leak, spill or accident may occur that will then require alarming and measurement of the bromine in the air. The heaviest users or bromine include:

  • Water Industry to treat water
  • Oil and Gas, Fracking (brine water treatment)
  • Flame retardants
  • PTA synthesis
  • Mercury emission control
  • Biocides for Water and Air Treatment
