Residual Analyzer

Chlorination is employed in most water treatment process to remove metallic ions and biological contaminants, and to supress subsequent growth of bacteria and other biota.

Excessive chlorination, however is economically wasteful and can give water an unpleasant taste and odour. Thus there are strong incentives to inject just the right amount, making accurate measurement vital.

Residual Chlorine Analyzer measures free chlorine in portable water, Swimming Pool & Industrial Water which is achieved by the addition of chlorine. It is important to those chlorine disinfectants properly in order to achieve correct residual.

The analyzer is used to measure chlorine continuously of disinfectant residual chlorine. According to present regulation, portable water must not contain more then 0.3 mg/ Ltr of effective chlorine. This amount may be increased up to 0.5 mg/ Ltr if required for sufficient disinfection. The portable water disinfected with chlorine shall contain at least 0.1 mg/ Ltr of free chlorine after chlorination. Processed swimming pool water is required to contain 0.3 to 0.5 mg/ Ltr of free chlorine in every part of swimming pool. The water leaving swimming pool shall contain at least 0.3 mg/ Ltr of free chlorine.

Installation of analyzer consists of various following items. Like instrument, Flow-cell, Sensor and inlet water connection with drain facility.

The flow-cell should be as close as possible to monitor. The connecting cable between measuring cell and monitor has been standard length of 3 meter. If local site condition required more then extension can be done at site with proper cable. The signal cable must not be laid adjacent to any main supply cable.

Sample water connection can be connected by using PVC hose flexible type from inlet to flow-cell unit. Copper pipe must not be used for sample water as air bubble will not be visible, If present during flow. Inlet water pressure must be off 0.15 to 0.5 Kg with constant flow of 5 lpm should be provided irrespective of pressure fluctuation. If water pressure is high say 4 Kg/ cm2 then it has to be reduced by means of pressure reducing valve at sample water inlet. Though, if required minimum pressure 0.15 to 0.5 Kg is not available then water pump has to be installed in inlet to create positive pressure.
